ECG: hypothermia

ECG: hypothermia

The following ECG changes may be seen in hypothermia
  • bradycardia
  • 'J' wave (Osborne waves) - small hump at the end of the QRS complex
  • first degree heart block
  • long QT interval
  • atrial and ventricular arrhythmias

Sinus rhythm with a prolonged QTc interval (approximately 500 ms). There are prominent J waves (notches at the end of the QRS complex), particularly in lead V3. While these may represent early repolarisation, their size raises the possibility of Osborn waves.
